Hello, I'm Andrew Warden, (...no, this isn't Old Little Good Harbour. It's her New Good Little Sister.)
Lots to tell you but by far our biggest news today is that of our recent acquisition of one of Barbados' legendary hotels. A "little sister" to Little Good Harbour if you like. A quick side visit to our new website here will tell you all about it and if you bookmark the page it could serve as a reference in case you wish to follow the progress of this exciting new project and hopefully induce you to visiting us there when the dust settles sometime around mid-2009.
Our clear objective when we opened Little Good Harbour and the Fish Pot was to create "the perfect Caribbean experience" for our interesting array of adventurous guests. But as visitors to Barbados know we also have an East Coast. (Considered by many to be the island's finest and most spectacular.)
Which is why, now, ten years later - yes, it is ten years - with both Little Good Harbour and the Fish Pot increasingly well-established we've set ourselves the challenging goal of creating the same experiences over there, directly across the island in Bathsheba, St. Joseph.
Click here for a short movie we've prepared to give you a taste of how things looked on the East Coast over 100 years ago (with a subtle fitting accompaniment by Duke Ellington's 'Take the A Train') and shots taken in September on the very day our project started to take shape. We'll be updating the movie too from time to time to show the phases leading to completion. So, as they say in radioland, "stay tuned."
A truly remarkable Fish Pot event.
Last August our guests and staff were blessed to witness one of nature's sweetest spectacles. Right here on the beach in front of the Fish Pot. As turtle eggs hatched and the babes scurried off after first noting the name of the restaurant where they'll return one day. There's not much to say about this except if we need any reminding of the precarious nature of our environment this shot of this tiny Barbadian (by birth) searching for the sea will do it. Click this thumbnail if you want to see him - or her - with 5 chums mainly heading in the same direction. And the picture graciously given to us for publication by a guest, that appears without commentary or exhortation to be environmentally-conscious, will break your heart at our collective vulnerability.
LGH's "Person of the Year."
Please say hello to Andrea Greaves who - to no-one's surprise - collects the 2008 accolade. We say to no-one's surprise because our guests quite frankly never stop raving about her.
Her story is quite remarkable and attests to her strong personality and the rewards of sheer determination.
A St. Lucy young lady, born and bred, she "waltzed" into our lives shortly after we opened the Fish Pot asking if we could offer her a job. Without previous restaurant experience and - seemingly - of shy, quiet nature.
Today, all these years later Andrea - now a mother of 2 - is a highly-regarded Fish Pot fixture. With her devastating smile and not a hint of shyness to be seen, she's a veritable entrepreneur, helping her partner with his businesses and - we're delighted to announce - always attentively waiting on Fish Pot tables to fill-in her free time.
Andrea is a truly astute lady and we congratulate her.
We still have Rum Punch prizes to be collected.
Your pictures kept coming - large and small - and no less prize-worthy than those we highlighted in our last newsletter. Thank you.
So we made a selection - some might say highly arbitrarily - and decided to show them off in this tight little movie. The accompanying music is chosen intentionally. To allow you winners to admire your work, our hotel and imagine being here with a frosty glass in hand.
Yes, 'fraid so, our crack legal staff have asked us once again to remind winners to prevent nasty litigation that we offer each of you a free Rum Punch, Fruit Punch, Pina Colada or Virgin Colada but you have to be in Shermans, Barbados to collect them.
And if you keep sending your pictures we'll continue publishing them and awarding Rum Punches.
3 short & snappy housekeeping notes.
Throughout September we've been closed taking the opportunity to make your next LGH visit even more comfortable. We're completely refurbishing bathrooms, putting-in better quality linens and towels and making adjustments to the Fish Pot.
We're already getting many Fish Pot Restaurant reservations for December & January - yes there is a Father Christmas - and to prevent disappointment if you plan to be here you may wish to click here to have your name safely entered in our little black book.
Speaking of January. Many - including many of us - consider it the best time of year to visit Barbados by clicking here. It's exactly like Christmas but without Santa - if you see what we mean.
Then, because we're Wardens, there's always this incredible place.

The nice thing about having your own hotel(s) and your own newsletter? You can write about topics that - while not directly connected to the hotel - are of interest to family, friends and guests who like to know what we Wardens do when we aren't taking care of business in Shermans, St. Peter, Barbados. Or now also in Tent Bay, Bathsheba, St. Joseph.
This year we've had a great summer in Australia and for those of you who've been meaning to go - but procrastinated about it - don't miss out on the Great Barrier reef as it really is all it's cracked out to be - the most amazing colours I have ever seen. And I recommend snow skiing in the snowy mountains of Australia - the most exercise I have done in a decade. But let the pictures in this short movie speak for themselves. If you look closely you'll see one scene of my favourite place in the whole world. It's also a tribute to my dad at a typical Mandurah lunch. (And if there's a more appropriate backing track I'd like to hear it.)
Finally, sincere congratulations if you are Ali and Miles of London and you've read this far to see if you've won the "Free Week's Accomodation" we offered in our last newsletter. You have. And you need do nothing, except celebrate. We'll be contacting you shortly to take care of all the arrangements.

Andrew
PS. Need I remind, we're still 100% family-owned and operated.
